What is all this talk about Metabolism?

All About Metabolism | Everyday Health

Metabolism is the rate at which your body breaks down the nutrients in food to produce energy.  Building lean muscle automatically increases your metabolic rate. After the age of 25, most adults lose 3 – 5 percent of their muscle every decade. That’s not a pretty sight. That’s why we tend to look a little flabbier when we age.

Another benefit of a solid resistance program is its effect on our overall appearance and body composition, which can directly influence self-esteem, self-worth, and your level of confidence. Being in better shape, is self-empowering.

One of the biggest mistakes you can make when you start a weight-management program is not to include a strength-training program along with your cardiovascular program. We’ve always listened to people who said they would like to lose the weight first by doing cardio and THEN they’ll start resistance exercises.  These are the same people who usually fall off the program, because they don’t see RESULTS. This is a mistake!

Long-term studies indicate that nearly 90 percent of women who dieted and also did a combination of strength training and aerobic conditioning, kept the weight off long-term.  Only 30 percent who relied on diet alone keep it off. This fact alone should tell you that the Slim & FIT approach would work for you.

After the age of 30, the average woman’s metabolic rate decreases at a rate of 2-3 percent per decade – due to INACTIVITY and MUSCLE LOSS. The truth is, that when you’re strength training, it’s possible to get smaller and heavier at that same time. It is important to make strong, healthy, positive changes, rather, than punishing your body and your spirit through starvation. Your goal is to have a sleek, healthy body of a naturally lean person who can enjoy what they eat.
